Dear Keystone Properties:
The City of Holland Human Relations Commission contracted with the Fair Housing Center of Greater Grand Rapids to conduct a series of fair housing tests throughout our community for the purpose of monitoring the fair housing practices of our local housing providers. Keystone Properties was selected as one of the sites to experience a monitoring test. The following are the results of this monitoring test:
The White tester (comparison) and the Black tester (protected class) were scripted to inquire about the availability, rental rate and deposit amount of a rental unit. Both testers were scripted to be married without children seeking a one (1) or two (2) bedroom unit. The comparison White tester’s annual household income was $38,500.00 and the protected Black tester’s annual household income was $40,000.00.
This test showed, “no significant difference”, in treatment between the comparison White tester and the protected Black tester. Both testers were given a list of available rental units and both were questioned regarding credit worthiness, rental history and full-time employment.
In summary, both the comparison White tester and the protected class Black tester were given a fair housing opportunity to secure a rental unit at Keystone Properties.
The Human Relations Commission offers it congratulations to Keystone Properties for successfully demonstrating fair housing practices in our community.
We sincerely hope that in the future as we conduct fair housing monitoring tests that Keystone Properties will continue to set a fine example for equal housing opportunity in the City of Holland.
